Pipe Bomb at Local Church

Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that the Boone County Sheriff’s Dept. received a call April 8, Sunday, at approximately 2:05 pm from a person at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints located at 272 Valley View Church Road here in Harrison.

The caller advised the dispatcher that there was what appeared to be a pipe bomb laying on the parking lot of the church. The caller was able to tell dispatch that both ends were capped and he did not know anything else.

Several church members were still on the church grounds when the device was seen on the west side of the church. The first deputies on scene evacuated those people from the area and cordoned off the site where the alleged bomb was on the parking lot.

Bentonville Police Bomb Squad was called in to assist . The bomb squad has a robot they used that cut the bomb in half with a hydraulic device. The bomb squad members detonated some powder inside the device at about 6:25 pm on Sunday. There was no information at the time if there was any type of detonation device attached to the bomb.

The FBI has been called in to assist in the investigation of this incident and the investigation is still ongoing. There are no suspects at this time.
